2008 ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE AWARD
ANDREGG GEOMATICS receives Honor Award
11/20/2007
ANDREGG GEOMATICS has been selected to receive the Honor Award for Engineering Excellence Award for 2008 by the Consulting Engineers and Land Surveyors of California (CELSOC) association for the Surveying and Mapping Technology category. The award highlights Andregg's contribution to the I-580/I-880 Oakland Maze Collapse earlier this year.
ANDREGG GEOMATICS was selected by C.C. Myers to provide quick-response surveying services for this emergency project. The project afforded ANDREGG the opportunity to demonstrate the ability to be creative, evaluate a problem situation, develop a creative solution, and exceed client expectations. ANDREGG deployed the use of Trimble S6 robotic total station and a High Definition Scanner with a short time frame to retrieve critical survey measurements to fabricate steel girders and layout for the precast concrete bent-cap.
The Oakland Maze Collapse showed the impossible could be achieved and 26 days later a critical arterial was reopened for traffic. ANDREGG Team members included: Mark Bardakjian, PLS, Jonathan DePuy, Neal Dickey, PLS, Michael Farrauto, LSIT, Daren Hatch, Tom Holmberg, PLS, Barney Olsen and Dana Remington, LSIT.

ANDREGG CALLED TO ACTION!
I-80/I-580 OAKLAND MAZE COLLAPSE
5/30/2007
On Monday, May 7, 2007, C.C. Myers, Inc. won the contract to reconstruct the damaged I-80/I-580 connecter at the MacArthur Maze interchange in Oakland, California near the San Francisco Bay Bridge. ANDREGG GEOMATICS received a call from Mr. CC Myers at 10:00 AM the following morning to provide as-built surveys for the elevated slabs of the collapsed connector. Within an hour of the phone call, ANDREGG's staff was mobilized to the jobsite in Oakland, California and included field crew from our Auburn, CA and Reno, NV offices.
Our staff worked until the early morning hours processing field data to create Computer Aided Design (CAD) deliverables for the steel fabricators. ANDREGG GEOMATICS also used High Definition Survey (HDS) equipment to take 3D laser scanning of the site.
These as-built surveys were used to measure existing conditions of the ramp, concrete decks, and columns. Using the survey measurements, fabricators were able to construct the 55-ft long ‘bent cap’, which is the concrete beam that goes across the existing columns. This beam was lifted into place on Tuesday, May 15th, and weighs 243,750-pounds. The survey measurements were also used to fabricate the sixteen girders, which hold up the concrete deck.
This project is the result of the deck collapsed caused by an overturned fuel tanker in the early morning hours on April 29, 2007. The traffic accident occurred on the southbound I-80 to I-880 connector resulting in intense fire, heat and destruction to the eastbound I-80 to eastbound I-580 connector and portions of the southbound I-80 to I-880 connector and nearby roadways. This event caused closures of highways and roadways, traffic congestion, impacted the local and statewide economy, and impaired movement of goods and services.
ANDREGG GEOMATICS continues to provide solutions throughout the West by utilizing local talent, meeting client expectations and…in the end, doing whatever it takes to get the job done. This is how our mantra, “We take your position precisely!” continues to ring true to our clients.
